Douglas Schimmel, portfolio manager for the long/short credit strategy, joined Sandler Capital in 1994. Mr. Schimmel is a research analyst and leads credit analysis for the hedge fund team. This analysis encompasses a company's complete capital structure including senior secured debt, subordinated debt, equity-related securities and options on equity-related securities, and includes both U.S. and non-U.S. opportunities. Since joining Sandler Capital, Mr. Schimmel has invested in both private and public companies, has served as a director of several private companies and has also served on various creditors committees.
Prior to joining Sandler Capital, Mr. Schimmel was an equity research analyst at Merrill Lynch, covering and publishing investment research in the cable television and broadcasting industries. Mr. Schimmel joined Merrill Lynch in 1993. Prior to joining Merrill Lynch, he was an analyst/portfolio manager at Wertheim Schroder & Company specializing in media, telecommunications, and package food and beverage company investments. Mr. Schimmel joined Wertheim Schroder & Company in 1988. He has a B.S. from the University of Miami.
